Archaeology of a mutating landscape: La Alcarria
Work in progress. Work in research.
"Archaeology of a Mutating Landscape" is a project that documents the transformations to which the landscape of Alcarria Conquense has been subjected due to human intervention over the centuries. Without intending to offer solutions, the project focuses on questioning human dominance over nature, as well as the scars it leaves behind.
The project reconstructs a new imaginary that connects the past with the present. To achieve this, photographs are used alongside archival images from the village of La Gascueña and the Historical Archive of Cuenca. Additionally, documents and drawings from the 19th century are incorporated, representing ancient concepts of the solar system and solar energy, creating a dialogue between the scientific knowledge of the time and current technology.
Through this approach, the project exposes both the fragility of the landscape and its capacity for resilience. What does the future hold for us?
*Project started during the Art Residency La Gascona
